3-alarm fire causes major damage at west Houston complex

Firefighters spent Wednesday night battling a three-alarm blaze at a west Houston apartment complex.

The fire broke out at the mixed-use complex in the 2700 block of Crossview near Westheimer.

HFD Station 60 is a half-mile down the road, and when firefighters pulled out of their building, they immediately saw a huge column of smoke. About 30 minutes later, the fire had escalated to three alarms and firefighters were forced to go into defensive mode for parts of the property.

Firefighters searched the complex twice and found no one inside of it, but we're told one firefighter injured his knee when sheet rock fell on him. That firefighter kept fighting the fire and wasn't transported to seek treatment.

In all, six businesses on the bottom and six apartments up top were completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.
