Search underway for kidnapper after girl abducted in Dickinson

DICKINSON, TX

In a small Dickinson neighborhood a little girl set out on a walk to her friend's house, but never made it.

"We see her play all the time. She is on the four-wheeler. She is a good little girl," said neighbor Paul Gutierrez.

Dickinson police say at around 12:50pm the 12-year-old was walking in the 3900 block of Cinnamon Cove Dr. near Nichols Avenue when an unknown male approached as she walked near a wooded area.

"She was taken into the field, she was attacked," said Dickinson police detective Tim Cromie. "She was able to scream, holler for help. She fought him off, which was the right thing to do."

She escaped to a neighbor's house where her parents and police were called.

Though witnesses reported seeing a man walking from the area, a search with officers and a canine turned up nothing.

The 12-year-old girl, who was possibly sexually assaulted, was taken UTMB Hospital to be treated and examined.

Many of her neighbors are shaken that this all happened about 150 yards from the little girl's home.

"It's crazy. You don't know who to trust now. I had to go get locks for the windows and for the doors," Gutierrez said.

The girl described the Hispanic man as about 5 foot 6 inches, weighing 160 to 180 pounds with curly black hair. He was wearing a yellow long sleeve shirt or jacket and yellow pants, possibly coveralls.

Anyone with possible information about this case is asked to call Dickinson Police Department at 281-337-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 409-945-8477.
