Federal prosecutors in Del Rio say 37-year-old Joe M. Rodriguez faces up to 10 years in prison in the scheme for equipment paid for but never delivered. No sentencing date was immediately set Thursday for Rodriguez, who owns Capitol Construction in Eagle Pass.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting theft in a 2011 scheme to steal more than $17,000 in county funds. The money was provided by the federal government.
Prosecutors say Rodriguez, while working as a private contractor for the county bordering Mexico, split the money with a county foreman. Jaime Flores faces trial next year on wire fraud and theft charges.
