Dallas schools use own funds for boys-only movie

DALLAS, TX

The Dallas Morning News reports that Dallas Independent School District officials, after the field trip, decided to use local funds and not federal money.

DISD officials initially said last February's movie trip for about 5,000 fifth-grade boys was paid for with $57,000 in Title I money. Such funds are used to educate disadvantaged children.

DISD spokesman Jon Dahlander said Monday that interim superintendent Alan King later opted to use local funds to avoid any conflict with federal money.

TEA investigators on Friday concluded their review after DISD forwarded documents indicating local funding was used.

DISD employees last summer completed a gender equality training program.
