Hundreds of people being evicted through no fault of their own are scrambling to find new homes over the holidays.

Residents of the 4444 Westheimer complex just inside the West Loop are being evicted and must be out by December 31.

The property is being sold to make room for a new mixed-use development. Residents tell us they feel they are being mistreated and the complex is barring them from moving out early.

"My part of the whole thing is the morality of it. Anybody can have legal rights. This is a California-based company that's throwing a thousand Houstonians in the street over the holidays," apartment resident Daniel Cotlow said.

The complex tell us it is returning residents' security deposits and providing a move out package that includes a listing of nearby complexes, an incentive plan and one month rent rebate.
