Marc Richard Saunders, 30, is charged with felony animal cruelty. A witness told authorities Saunders picked up the donkey, named Susie Q, after it got loose, then tied it to a hitch and dragged it a quarter of a mile.
Susie Q lost nearly two inches of her hooves. Her owners now say she's very uncomfortable, but is expected to make it.
Volunteers are planning to make that donkey specialized shoes when she's able to stand for longer periods.
