Police allege that James W. Calvert, 41, fatally shot his 30-year-old ex-wife, Jelena Sriraman, then grabbed their son, Lucas, before disappearing. A capital murder warrant and Amber Alert were issued.
According to investigators, Lucas' mother had recently won custody of her son and was planning to move to Houston with her new husband.
The Tyler Morning Telegraph reports another child of the slain woman was at school and is safe.
Sriraman's pastor, Larry Craig of Southern Oaks Baptist Church, tells the newspaper Sriraman was staying there with her son until she could get back on her feet.
"Jelena was one of our new members, a new American. She just received her citizenship recently and we were helping her to stay here, ministering to her as she was going to college to further her education," Craig said.
