Firefighters extinguish two-alarm blaze in Galleria area

HOUSTON

The fire erupted around 3:20pm at a town home complex off Post Oak Timber/South Post Oak Lane near the Galleria area. It was put out nearly an hour later.

No injuries were reported in the fire and everyone was accounted for, Houston Fire Department Spokesman Jay Evans said.

SkyEye HD was over the scene as firefighters doused the building with water. It appears the building's roof has partially collapsed, but we're told the damage was confined to only one town house.

Evans says the fire started in the garage of that town home then spread through the walls.

We're told an elderly resident who was trying to start his 1978 Caddy in the garage when something went wrong. He heard a loud boom and then saw the fire.

The majority of the flames were concentrated in the garage area, so firefighters contained it first then moved up to battle the flames in the top three floors. They used ladders to climb up and pour more water from above.

Firefighters are still trying to determine how that car caught fire.

An investigation is ongoing.
