HCSO: Gunman charged in billiards bet shooting

HOUSTON

It happened on August 15 at a restaurant in a strip center in the 8200 block of Antoine Drive in the Inwood North area.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, 45-year-old Them Van Trieu was playing pool with another man at a cafe. They placed a bet on the game, but there was a disagreement over the wager.

An argument reportedly erupted between the two men and Trieu was asked to leave. He walked to Pho Ha Noi Restaurant, which is in the same strip center as the cafe.

About 30 minutes later, Trieu's billiards opponent walked into Pho Ha Noi. Court documents state that Trieu stood from his chair and shot the man two times -- once in the foot and once in the groin.

The victim survived. HCSO investigators interviewed him and witnesses who identified Trieu as the shooter, officials said.

Trieu was charged with aggravated assault yesterday. He has not been arrested.
