Sugar Land native's lawsuit at heart of Supreme Court case

WASHINGTON

It involves Sugar Land native Abigail Fisher. She sued the University of Texas at Austin, saying she was denied admission in 2008 because she is white.

UT accepts any Texas student from the top 10 percent of their high school class and uses racial diversity as one of the factors in offering the rest of the available spots.

The Supreme Court's decision in this case could limit or even end the use of racial preferences in college admissions.
