A store clerk is recovering after getting into a shootout with a would-be robber in northwest Harris County overnight.

Deputies say the suspect entered Mo's Food Mart on Kuykendahl and demanded cash. A struggle ensued and the clerk was shot once. He then grabbed his own weapon and fired at the suspect.

The worker thinks he shot the crook twice, so area hospitals have been put on notice in case the suspect shows up seeking treatment.

The clerk is listed as stable.
