It happened on Lyndhurst near Southbank. Police say the son was threatening to blow up his mother's house.
She called 911 and told officers her son had a knife. But when SWAT arrived the son told police he had a pistol and wanted to kill himself.
He remained holed up inside the home for about 30 minutes before he came outside and surrendered.
