San Antonio lawyer accused of forgery, theft

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed on Thursday announced the indictment of 51-year-old Hilda Valadez of San Antonio. The 46-count indictment includes charges of theft by deception, execution of a document by deception and tampering with a government record.

Jail records show Valadez was released Thursday night on $20,000 bond. She did not immediately respond to a message for comment Friday.

Prosecutors allege Valadez forged the signatures of three judges for payment as a court-appointed attorney. Reed says the case involves at least $120,000 in vouchers.

A clerk last year noticed signatures on some court payment forms for representing indigent clients did not appear to match a judge's signature.
