Man accused of setting neighbor's vehicles on fire after verbal altercations

HOUSTON

Charles Robert Johnson, 59, is charged with arson. Police say on May 22, Johnson was seen on the victim's security camera footage walking across the street from a neighboring residence in northwest Harris County with two bags. The video shows Johnson allegedly placing one bag underneath one of his neighbor's vehicles in the driveway and igniting the bag, then igniting the second bag under another vehicle. Johnson is then seen walking back across the street into a neighboring residence.

According to police, the vehicles were close enough to the victim's home that the residence caught fire from the vehicles.

Court documents state the male victim told police that he had verbal altercations with Johnson in the past about his heavy drinking and swearing. The victim and his wife picked Johnson out of a photo array, police say.

Johnson is not in custody.
