Officials react to deadly College Station shooting

HOUSTON

Here is what they had to say: Former President George H. W. Bush:
"Barbara and I were profoundly saddened to learn about the tragic shootings in College Station yesterday, and we send our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the victims and their families -- especially the families of Constable Bachmann and Christopher Northcliff. While we cannot understand the senselessness that led to this shocking series of events, we do know that the Bryan-College Station community -- which is like a home for us -- will come together to comfort and, just as importantly, to persevere. May God bless you all in this trying time, and shower you with His healing grace."

Gov. Rick Perry:
Thoughts & prayers are with those impacted by shootings near A&M. Ever thankful for officers who daily sacrifice to keep us from harm.

Linda Weaver, mother of Tres Caffall:
"Our family was shocked and devastated by the tragedy this afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the deceased and the wounded victims. We mourn them and the loss of Tres. He had been ill. It breaks our hearts his illness led to this. Please respect our privacy in our grief."

Bowen Loftin, president of Texas A&M:
"This is a sad day in the Bryan-College Station community. As most of you know, a traumatic incident occurred a few blocks from our campus today. We are deeply saddened to learn about the deaths of three individuals, including a law enforcement officer. My thoughts and prayers, as well I am sure of the entire Aggie community, go out to the families and close friends of those who died so tragically, those who were injured and anyone else personally impacted by this senseless act of violence. All of us at Texas A&M will do whatever we can today and in the coming days to serve in any way possible to ease the pain, tensions and concerns of all affected."

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott:
Senseless attacks by violent criminals have no place in the State of Texas--and will not be tolerated. The Attorney General's Office has offered law enforcement assistance to the Department of Public Safety and our Crime Victim Services personnel have contacted local authorities to ensure they have whatever resources are necessary to aid the victims of this terrible crime.

Harris County Sheriff's Office:
Our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Brazos County Precinct 1 Constable Brian Bachmann who was killed today in a shooting near the Texas A&M campus in College Station.

Houston Police Department:
Please keep the family of Constable Brian Bachmann in your prayers tonight. He was killed in the line of duty today and a College Station police officer was wounded. A citizen and the suspected shooter were also killed. Details and how you can express your condolences are linked below. (KJS)

Courtney Clark, the sister of the shooting suspect, Thomas Caffall, also reached Monday evening at her mother's home in Navasota:
"Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and this is just a senseless tragedy," she said. "We are just distraught by the havoc that he has caused. We're shocked."
