Flyweight Marlen Esparza, who grew up here in the Houston area, and middleweight teammate Claressa Shields, have guaranteed themselves at least a bronze after impressive quarterfinal victories.
The two will earn the U.S. team its first women's boxing medals ever. Both are back in action Wednesday.
