It happened around 2am on F.M. 1960 near Eldridge Parkway.
Deputies say the husband and wife were walking home from a Walmart and tried to cross 1960 at an unprotected area.
They were hit by a car.
The wife was taken to an area hospital by Life Flight in critical condition. Officials said the husband suffered minor injuries to his legs and refused transport.
According to investigators, the driver of the car passed a field sobriety test, but she did have an open container in her vehicle. She was ticketed and released.
