One arrested after disturbance during funeral

HOUSTON

Family and friends had gathered to say goodbye to Claude Kibbie Friday afternoon when they suddenly heard a noise.

"We heard a boom," said witness Jasmine Davis. "We thought it was a gunshot, but it was just a window."

Last Wednesday, police say Kibbie was shot in the head, then stepped on the gas pedal and drove the car was in through an apartment building. He died hours later.

On Friday at his funeral, police say a man came to the funeral home and some attendees apparently thought he was a suspect in Kibbie's death. They beat him up, even throwing him through a plate glass window.

Nobody was arrested for the altercation, and the man suffered minor cuts and bruises from his flight through the window. The only arrest was another man for unrelated warrants. But all the activity has left nearby residents shocked.

"It's terrible," said neighbor Marie Sanford. "It's awful, but there are so many things going on now people are just rattled."

Investigators are still trying to determine who pushed the man through the window.
