Apple's lawsuit against Samsung alleges the world's largest technology company's products are illegal knockoffs of the popular iPhone and iPad. Apple wants $2.5 billion in damages, an award that would dwarf the largest patent-related verdict to date.
Samsung counters that Apple is doing the stealing and that some of the technology at issue has been industry standard for years.
The two companies are also fighting it out in courts in the United Kingdom and Germany.
One legal expert says the real prize isn't necessarily the damages Apple is seeking but whether Samsung gets to sell some of its major products in the U.S. at all.
