If you heard something that sounded like a rocket launch in Clear Lake on Friday, it was NASA testing a new space vehicle.

NASA ran a 70 second test flight of its Morpheus lander at Johnson Space Center. The lander was connected to a crane and made a successful hover test.

NASA will send Morpheus to Kennedy Space Center for more ground testing before it makes a free flight.

NASA describes Morpheus as a prototype for future space vehicles that could be sent to various destinations in our solar system. The lander has undergone a year of testing at Johnson Space Center.
