According to the Galveston County Daily News, at least 40 people were stung on the island's beaches yesterday. Beach patrol says the stings were from Japanese jellyfish, known locally as sea nettle. They rest just below the water's surface and are hard to see.
Stings can be treated by flushing the area with salt water.
