City Council votes to let South Houston police chief to keep job

HOUSTON

The City Council there on Tuesday night decided to let Chief Herbert Gilbert keep his job and review his performance each quarter. The chief wiped away tears and the audience cheered after the council made its decision.

Last week, Chief Gilbert said South Houston Mayor Joe Soto asked him to resign. Gilbert said he would not do so.

The mayor and City Council did not answer our requests to discuss this story.
