The horses apparently escaped from a nearby pasture just before 5am and made their way onto the right lane of Highway 288 near Orem.
A minivan came over the hill and struck the two horses, killing them. The driver was not seriously hurt.
A city solid waste truck with a cherry picker removed the horses from the scene.
The accident closed down the Orem entrance ramp and the far right lane for a couple of hours. The accident has since been cleared.
