The driver somehow lost control of his vehicle, went through several yards, hit a guardrail, then crashed into the bayou below.
Witnesses say it sounded like a plane crash.
"I was just coming out the inside door of my garage when I heard what I thought was a low-flying airplane," witness Gary Busdosh said. "There was this high-speed engine sound and I came out expecting to see a plane crash.
The victim was rushed to a hospital by helicopter.
