Actor Danny Glover met with Houston janitors to talk about the wages they earn for cleaning offices in some of the city's largest companies.

Glover then spoke to more than 300 people at a rally Sunday also featuring U.S. Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green, both Houston Democrats.

The Houston Chronicle reports many Houston janitors make about $9,000 a year.

Glover says that "as citizens, it is our duty and responsibility to stand up for a living wage."

For the last month, more than 3,000 members of the Service Employees International Union Local 1 have been working without a contract after asking for an hourly wage increase from $8.35 to $10 phased in over four years. Employers offered a raise of 50 cents an hour over five years.
