Glover then spoke to more than 300 people at a rally Sunday also featuring U.S. Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green, both Houston Democrats.
The Houston Chronicle reports many Houston janitors make about $9,000 a year.
Glover says that "as citizens, it is our duty and responsibility to stand up for a living wage."
For the last month, more than 3,000 members of the Service Employees International Union Local 1 have been working without a contract after asking for an hourly wage increase from $8.35 to $10 phased in over four years. Employers offered a raise of 50 cents an hour over five years.
