Keep your kids busy this weekend -- for free

HOUSTON

We have some great freebies to keep the kids busy this summer plus free food for kids and adults.

If you're a dog lover and you're looking for something to do this weekend, head over to Discovery Green to watch the DockDogs competition. It's free for spectators and you can expect quite a show from the pooches. The three-day competition will showcase dogs showing off their various talents. The event will also include some canine costumes. DockDogs runs throughout the entire weekend.

Instead of just watching the movie on the big screen, kids will have a chance to be a part of Disney's Madagascar 3. Lowe's is offering its free Build and Grow clinic. This time, kids will put on their apron and goggles and learn how to build the Madagascar 3 luxury assault vehicle. Saturday's class starts at 10am; on Sunday, the building starts at 2pm. Check online for participating Lowe's locations and register soon. Classes are filling up fast.

For even more free and fun ways for the kids to be creative this summer, head over to any Lakeshore Learning Center for free arts and crafts projects. This Saturday, the kids will grab the construction paper, glitter and glue and make summer door hangers. The classes are offered every Saturday from 11 am to 3pm.

If you are having trouble keeping the teens and tweens busy this summer, what about a free educational summer camp? Attucks Middle School is offering STEM Camp. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The camp is everyday next week from 9am until 2:30pm. Parents can register at the school or online.

To celebrate the official start of summer, Panda Express is offering free food. Guests can go to any participating Panda Express location this Friday after 9pm and enjoy a free serving of orange chicken.

The heat is on, so cool off with a free serving of frozen yogurt. The Red Mango in Rice Village is having its grand reopening event and people will be offered a free small yogurt with their choice of toppings. The event is this Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
