Three in custody after high-speed chase ends in crash

HOUSTON

Houston police say they received a robbery call at around 10:30am from a Radio Shack at Lyons and Lockwood. Three suspects robbed the business, then fled in a Pontiac Grand Am. Police say officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway vehicle in a nearby neighborhood, but the suspects refused to stop and a pursuit began, reaching speeds of 100 mph.

About seven miles later, the suspects' vehicle crashed into a box car near C.E. King Parkway. Police say one suspect got out of their car and tried to take another woman's car and punched her in the face, jumped into her car and could not drive a stick shift so jumped out.

"Desperate fleeing suspect. Oh yeah, that child would have been in a lot of danger. Thank God he didn't know how to drive a five-speed. I think that's the only thing that kept that from becoming a kidnapping," said HPD Sgt. P.E. George.

All three suspects were arrested on Beaumont Highway at Gregdale. One suspect was transported to the hospital with back pain.

HPD says they will look into other robberies in the area.
