Suspect arrested in murder of man gunned down in grandparents' driveway

HOUSTON

Robert Gutierrez, 24, was ambushed in the driveway on June 12. His girlfriend had just dropped him off when a car pulled up. Police say Robert Gutierrez had a verbal argument with the suspect outside a residence in the 6900 block of Boyce. During the dispute, the suspect, described only as an unknown Hispanic male, shot Gutierrez multiple times. The suspect fled in an unknown vehicle.

Houston Fire Department personnel responded and paramedics pronounced Gutierrez dead.

Further investigation led to the identification of Edward Montemayor as a suspect in this case. Montemayor, 22, was arrested without incident on June 15 and charged with murder.

Court documents show Montemayor has a lengthy criminal record.
