Man fatally shot outside his grandmother's home

HOUSTON

It happened around 11:15pm Tuesday at a house on Boyce and Lathrop. Police say they have good leads and good information on the suspect, and that gives this family some hope after their terrible loss.

"My son Robert was a wonderful son," said the victim's mother, Margaret Gutierrez.

Robert Gutierrez was just days away from his 25th birthday. His girlfriend dropped him off at his grandmother's house, when according to police, a red car pulled next to him. Someone inside the car was talking to him and at some point, opened fire on him. He was shot multiple times.

"He went inside, 'cause the car drove up. When he went inside, the car left. When he came back outside, he said, 'What do you want from me?'" said the victim's aunt.

His family thinks perhaps he was followed.

"He pulled a gun and shot him three times," the victim's grandmother said.

A family member called 911, but it was too late.

"He was gone and he was dead, and that's it," said his grandmother.

Gutierrez leaves behind an extended family, but closest to him were a young daughter, and a mother determined to find what happened.

"I feel that there is going to be some justice done. I'm gonna see to it, not in a vengeance way, in the right way," Margaret Gutierrez said. "He would have been 25 on the 18th of this month. He would have been standing in my daughter's wedding. The plans are still going to be hopefully, God's will. He was lovable, everybody loved him."

"He's too young to go, he's a baby," said his aunt.

Police are still searching for the shooter. They do not have a motive at this time, but they say they do have some good leads in the case.
