Cy Ranch claims state 5A baseball title

The Cy Ranch Mustangs, playing in just their third year of varsity baseball, are state champs, after topping A and M Consolidated 4-1 Saturday in Round Rock.

Cy-Ranch got off to a quick start. Bryce Stark's single to center got by the Tigers' center fielder, scoring Leon Byrd to give Ranch a 1-0 lead. One inning later, Corbin Martin unloaded a monster home run to put Cy Ranch up 3-1.

Cy Ranch was up 4-1 when the game came to a crazy ending. Mustangs pitcher Jonathan Whitley tried to pick off Consolidated's Ethan Townsend at second, but the throw went into center field. Townsend went to third. Cody Hamilton ran for second but Townsend tried to come back. He was out and so was Hamilton to end the game.

A big congrats going out to the Mustangs.
