The Galveston Island Beach Patrol responded to a 911 call about a drowning incident just after 2pm at 16 mile and F.M. 3005 on the sand.
According to officials, witnesses saw the man fall face down in knee-deep water. They pulled him out within about 15 seconds and performed CPR until emergency crews arrived.
The man was taken to John Sealy Hospital, but we've since learned he died.
Police said the cause of his collapse was unknown, but he has history of heart problems.
