A 40-year-old Texas man has been convicted of hauling 55 pounds of marijuana in his rental car while driving down Interstate 80 in Nebraska.

The Lincoln Journal Star says Forrest Jones, of Emory, Texas, was found guilty on Tuesday of possession with intent to deliver. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 31.

Authorities say Jones and a companion, Michael Shaw, of Muscatine, Iowa, were arrested in March 2011 after a Nebraska state trooper pulled over a rental car being driven by Jones. Shaw pleaded guilty after making a deal with prosecutors and was given 16 to 32 months in prison.
