Houston tycoon John Goodman has just been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the 2010 drunk driving death of a Florida man.

Goodman's Bentley slammed into the car driven by Scott Wilson, 23, pushing it into a canal where he drowned.

This case had received national headlines after Goodman adopted his girlfriend in order to preserve his fortune while negotiating a civil suit settlement.

Goodman had claimed his car malfunctioned and lurched forward causing the crash. Goodman was also given a $10,000 fine.
