The accident happened just before 2:30am on the freeway near Parker Road. Investigators say a driver, who's only been identified as a 31-year-old male, lost control of the Mercury Mountaineer he was driving and struck the wall of the freeway. The vehicle flipped and the driver was ejected.
Police shut down the freeway as they investigated. At one point, all single-occupant vehicles were being allowed to use the HOV lane to get around the closure.
Police say there was a female passenger in the vehicle with the driver. She was transported to Ben Taub Hospital with minor injuries.
