Former Texas legislator agrees to disbarment

BROWNSVILLE, TX

The Brownsville Herald (http://bit.ly/K0mwzI) reported Wednesday that the State Bar of Texas' Commission for Lawyer Discipline reached the decision with Jose Santiago "Jim" Solis on April 10 after the panel concluded that he had committed professional misconduct.

Solis' attorney, Sharon Conway, said Solis had acknowledged that his conduct would result in disbarment and he agreed to it because it was the right thing to do.

Solis pleaded guilty in April 2011 after admitting to involvement in the extortion scheme of former state District Judge Abel C. Limas, who pleaded guilty to racketeering in March. Solis' sentencing is scheduled for August.
