Sinkhole closes bridge in Brazoria County

BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX

Authorities with the Texas Department of Public Safety said they got a call Friday evening about a wreck on County Road 304 at Jones Creek, near the southwest corner of Lake Jackson.

When officials arrived, they didn't find a wreck at the location. It was a sinkhole instead.

The sinkhole caused part of the two-lane asphalt bridge to cave in, and almost took a car with it. According to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, a car was about to go through when the bridge collapsed.

The car ended up with a flat tire but no one was injured.

Brazoria County deputies said the bridge will be evaluated for repair Monday.
