Ex-military postmaster in Humble gets prison

HOUSTON

A federal judge in Houston sentenced 34-year-old Delmus Scott Jr. of Humble and fined him $7,500.

Scott in January pleaded guilty to theft of government money. He worked for a contractor that provided postal services to U.S. military personnel deployed in Kuwait.

Investigators say Scott stole 565 postal money orders worth $1,000 apiece.

Authorities say Scott altered money orders using an imprinter exclusive to where he worked, then deposited the funds into his accounts. The bulk of the money, which authorities say Scott shared with a female friend, has been recovered.

Scott on Thursday was sentenced to 33 months in prison.
