Brownsville opens $31M main bus terminal

BROWNSVILLE, TX

Ceremonies were held Thursday in Brownsville to dedicate La Plaza. Backers say federal funds paid for about $24 million of the project first envisioned a decade ago.

Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez says a lot of effort and love went into getting the terminal built.

The complex at the Brownsville Multimodal Terminal is near the Gateway International Bridge to Mexico.

The Brownsville Herald reports the ground floor measures nearly 46,000 square feet and includes a passenger waiting area and bus counters.

The complex has a dozen bus bays, two layover spaces and canopy shelters for passenger boarding. The terminal also has two bus bays reserved for rural public transit operators.
