The owner of the business was in the building on Blalock at Long Point when the crash happened around 9pm.
Police said a white pickup truck was southbound on Blalock when the driver lost control and smashed into a metal fence surrounding the car dealership.
The fence came down on two parked cars, damaging them.
The owner of the dealership tried unsuccessfully to stop the driver. The truck sped away, but a witness at a traffic light outside the dealership realized what was happening.
The witness followed the truck to a nearby apartment complex, and then returned to the dealership to tell the business owner where the driver went.
The business owner said he called 911 and went to the apartment complex. He kept an eye on the suspect, who appeared to have passed out in the truck, until police arrived.
The driver was arrested. His name has not been released.
