Spring Branch Medical Center plans reorganization, layoffs

HOUSTON

The hospital announced today it's going through a reorganization, which includes suspending all surgery and inpatient care. The hospital says it will now focus more on outpatient services.

There will be layoffs associated with the changes.

"This reduction is, in no way, related to job performance," Spring Branch Medical Center CFO Christopher Ashby said in a press release issued Thursday. "It is a result of changing rules and policies, especially involving cost constraints and reimbursement rates from government and private insurance providers."

According to the Spring Branch Medical Center, the changes, which take effect immediately, come after a comprehensive review and analysis of patient population and needs of the community.
