San Antonio father gets 18 years for baby's death

SAN ANTONIO, TX

A judge on Tuesday sentenced 21-year-old Ramiro De La Rosa of San Antonio. De La Rosa pleaded guilty to injury to a child just before his trial began.

His girlfriend, Julie Navejar, was 16 when their 7-week-old daughter, Jayda, was found dead in 2009 outside a fire station. A note left with the girl suggested she was alive when dropped off and deserved a better life.

An autopsy found the bruised, malnourished baby died of cocaine toxicity and pneumonia. Prosecutors say the parents were drug addicts.

Navejar this month pleaded no contest to injury to a child and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
