Man arrested in brutal sex assault near METRO bus stop now facing another charge for 2008 rape

HOUSTON

Roberto Ramirez is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of an adult. The most recent charge stems from a rape case that happened on March 15, 2008 in the 3500 block of Brock Street. Court documents state the female victim was approached by Ramirez, who asked her for a cigarette. She complied and then Ramirez allegedly punched her in the head, causing her to lose consciousness.

The woman told investigators she awoke as Ramirez was pulling her into a nearby yard. She says Ramirez then choked and raped her.

She took a rape kit examination and the DNA came back to match Ramirez, according to court documents.

Ramirez was already arrested for a previous rape charge. In that case, the victim said she noticed Ramirez following her to the bus stop on February 22, 2012. She says Ramirez got on the bus after her and exited the bus when she did. Ramirez then allegedly hit her on the head with a bottle and took her behind a building where he raped her. The victim went to the hospital, had a rape kit done and the DNA came back to match Ramirez as well.

He was arrested on March 13 in Abilene after a Crime Stoppers tip.

Bond has been set at $50,000 in each case.

Ramirez, 21, was released from prison in November 2011, on parole for a robbery conviction. He also has prior convictions for drug possession, theft and criminal trespass. Authorities say Ramirez is a member of the gang '59 PIRU.'

In the wake of this year's incident, METRO says it is stepping up security in hopes of reassuring nervous passengers, including more patrols using uniformed and plain clothes officers.
