Investigators say the victim was walking in the 1400 block of Tarberry near Parkway when he was shot. A pickup truck pulled up next to him and someone in the truck fired shots. The 24-year-old victim was struck in the head and died at the scene. The victim lived nearby.
At least two suspects are believed to have been in the vehicle. Police say there was no altercation before the shooting.
"(He) pulled up next to him and shot him and then they were seen fleeing eastbound on Tarberry," said Mohammad Kahn with the Houston Police Department homicide division.
