Heroes credited with pulling man from burning home

SANTA FE, TX

At about 10:30pm Thursday, a fire was reported at a trailer home in the 11800 block of 24th Street. A police officer and firefighter arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the home.

According to the Santa Fe Police Department, Officer Robert Shores went to the door and alerted an elderly woman to the fire. She got out safely but let the officer know a man lived in a separate apartment on the other half of the home.

Officer Shores and firefighter Christopher Anderson went around back, where heavy smoke was pouring out of an open window, and flames could be seen coming from a mattress. When they couldn't get a response from the home's occupant, they forced their way in the locked door. The rescuers found a man unconscious on the burning mattress and pulled him to safety.
