It happened on United Flight 854 out of Bush Airport. The flight was on its way to Lima, Peru, when it hit the bird. Pilots turned the plane around and it landed without incident.
There were 229 passengers on board, and 11 crew members. The passengers were put on other flights, according to airport personnel.
The plane is being checked over to determine if there's any damage. At this point, it's not known where on the plane the bird hit or what kind of bird it was.
