The 13 percent fare hike goes into effect on Thursday. The city last raised the cab fare rate seven years ago.
The city says that cab drivers are going broke due to the rising price of gas which the drivers have to buy themselves. The city is also allowing taxis to stay on the road longer.
The taxis will carry devices that let passengers use credit cards to pay for fares.
