Police trying to ID pedestrian killed on US 290

Harris County deputies are investigating a deadly auto-pedestrian accident on the Northwest Freeway near Little York.

It happened around 8:45pm Saturday.

According to officials, a man was attempting to cross the main inbound lanes on the Northwest Freeway when he was struck by a Volkswagon Jetta.

The man died at the scene.

The driver of the car stayed until police arrived.

She told investigators she had just entered the freeway and was checking over her shoulder for traffic so she could change lanes. When she looked back, the man was in front of her.

She said she tried to stop, but it was too late.

The Northwest Freeway at Little York was closed for several hours while police investigated.

No charges are expected on the driver.

The victim did not have any identification on him, but there was a tattoo of a barcode on the upper left portion of his chest.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the victim's identity can call police.
