Homeless veterans getting new place to find help, roof over their heads

HOUSTON

Developers broke ground Thursday on a new 192-unit housing project built exclusively for helping those who've served in the nation's military. It will add greatly to the existing 300-bed Midtown Terrace Suites on Main Street. That facility already provides temporary and permanent housing for veterans, as well as job outreach and counseling services.

"There are still lots of homeless vets out there unfortunately. We've put a dent in it. We're doing better. But there's still a lot of homeless vets out there," said Tom Mitchell, USVETS State Director.

The four story building called Travis Street Plaza Apartments will also provide counseling and medical care.

It's scheduled to open the first week of December.
