Ex-fighter pilot O'Grady suspends Texas Senate run

AUSTIN, TX

Republican Scott O'Grady, on his Facebook page Monday, cited the "uncertainty of a primary election date from redistricting."

O'Grady, who lives in North Texas, was running in District 8, which includes parts of Dallas and Collin counties.

Closing arguments were scheduled Tuesday in Washington in a trial to determine whether the maps drawn by the GOP-dominated Texas Legislature violated the federal Voting Rights Act. The dispute has put the April 3 primaries in jeopardy.

O'Grady was flying an F-16 when he was shot down by Bosnian Serbs in 1995 while enforcing a NATO no-fly zone. He evaded capture for six days before his rescue by U.S. Marines.
