The interim superintendent for a North Texas district with more than 80,000 students has been named the lone finalist for the permanent job.

Fort Worth Independent School District trustees on Tuesday unanimously chose Walter Dansby. He's served as interim superintendent since June following the May resignation of Melody Johnson.

The school board must wait 21 days before making Dansby's selection final.

Dansby is a former teacher and principal who has been with the Fort Worth ISD since 1974. He recently served as a deputy superintendent involved with bond and operational matters.
